NEW BLOG POST - All the time I have not been visib

NEW BLOG POST - All the time I have not been visible on my blog has been spent doing so much that I can’t really say what I have been doing. Strange, right?

I did spend time organizing my mother’s 85th birthday party. My nephew, niece, and I had lots of video calls on WhatsApp, working together to make Mom’s birthday celebration a success. My cousins from Virginia came to New Mexico, as a surprise, but Mom found out through her ability to trick my nephew into revealing the secret. Joe and I had to get our house ready. We needed to make some touch-ups. These touch-ups should have been done but we didn’t do them. So now that we were having a party at our house, we had to do them, and that time was the easiest time I ever experienced obtaining Joe’s credit card.

The summer went by fast for me. I blinked and now it is September. This past winter I didn’t take care of my hair the way I should have. With neglect, in a dry climate, my hair told me who was the boss. So, I got a “trim” in the spring that I am happy I got but want to fuss about it because the stylist took a lot off. It was needed and now my hair no longer sheds and it feels and looks healthier.

Side note – I don’t know why my hair always photographs lopsided.

I am using a new skincare line and I updated my beauty regimen with hair thickening and hair, skin, and nails supplements. I also included vitamin D3, collagen, and sea moss supplements to keep me tight and right.

I am on a mission to lose weight. I put my dogs on a healthier diet and if Joe decides to join us and eat nutritious foods, I will probably fall out from shock.

In this picture, I was Ms. New York, at age 40. I had entered my first beauty pageant.

Throughout my years, the idea of competing in a beauty pageant crossed my mind occasionally, but on a lazy Saturday afternoon, while watching a pageant for married women on television, I made up my mind that I was going to compete, and before the pageant finished airing, I was on my computer researching competitions designed just for me.

At my age, of course, I was laughed at by all. At my age, of course, people wondered what I would get out of it. At my age, of course, people didn’t take me seriously. At my age, of course, before people saw my picture, I was passed up for pageant appearances.

What was not understood by many was that I had fun. I felt beautiful. I looked gorgeous. No one believed my age. I traveled, met interesting people, and wore eloquent gowns. I was always made up. I made loads of appearances. And, I enjoyed updating my Myspace page with pretty pageant pictures of me.

For the next five years, all of my money went to pageantry. I didn’t mind. I created memories, had experiences, and wore the title of my true calling, “Queen.”

Royalty reigns in my soul naturally. It took years for me to discover this, but others knew, and they tried to take my crown. Because I am who I am, of course, they all failed. I often protected myself and stood alone if I had to. I discovered the cure to being ostracized. All it took was for me to feel what I was going through and understand it, and only then did I grow stronger.

I found it important to realize that the woman I was took time to develop. When that woman matured she introduced me to the woman I am today, and because of that, I cannot wait to turn into the woman I will become.

Some mornings I wake up energized. Some mornings I don’t comb my hair. Some mornings I rush to do things. Some mornings I realize I have too much to do.

Most mornings I journal. Most mornings I apply makeup. Most mornings I enjoy my quiet time. Most mornings I listen to the outdoors’ four-legged animals wake up with me.

Every morning I wake up early. Every morning I drink mushroom coffee. Every morning I kiss my husband. Every morning I feed my dogs. Every morning I work on something I like. Every morning I admire my view, the mountains and the volcanoes, the sunrise, the defined colors, from inside my entire house. And for that, I am grateful, because I know I can see God.

Now, I accept that I am a morning person. I own my mornings and am happy I cannot sleep the day away if I tried. I am my most productive in the morning. My best mornings were in the Congo. Every morning there was a sweet scent in the air from the citrus fruit in the trees. The wind would pick up a light breeze and the warm sweetness wrapped around me like a protective cloak. At those sweet moments, I knew, I was where God wanted me to be.

My nephew and his two girls, along with his girlfriend, were supposed to come and visit this Christmas season but plans changed the last minute. Our family in New Mexico was sad about the change but now look forward to seeing everyone this summer when the girls have more time off from school.
Even though our “Christmas Club” had fewer people than planned we still had a wonderful Christmas season. I’m actually sad it’s over now. I haven’t felt this way since I was a kid. The season started the day after Thanksgiving. We put up the tree. It took two days to decorate the house with the spirit of Christmas. I wanted to use all of the decorations I could find that were in bins and containers stacked in the garage. Plus a few more trinkets were purchased for holiday fun.
Christmas classics such as “Carol of the Bells,” “Holy Night,” and anything sung by Nat King Cole played endlessly to keep the momentum going. Before the holiday arrived, there was word about classical music concerts being held by candlelight. The advertisements constantly popped up on my social media timelines and I took that as s sign to purchase tickets to enjoy an event featuring Christmas music with Joe. The classical music format, the candles, the wine, and the romantic setting all produced a cozy, classy, and magical holiday evening.
I get so tired when cooking Christmas dinner. Mom overcooked, as she does every year, no matter what I say, and everyone wore matching t-shirts spotlighting the Grinch I purchased at Walmart. Later that evening, like many others nationwide, we went to the movies and saw The Color Purple. The movie was great. I dozed off a bit because I had been moving since early that morning, and once I sat in the comfy movie chairs, with the lights out, something happened.

NEW BLOG POST - Enjoying Femininity - I decided to take some time for myself. I started to slip away from my feminine lifestyle and I didn’t like that. So, I am concentrating on living a relaxed, soft, and luxurious (in my own way) lifestyle. My days are full but I am doing things I want to do and things are accomplished at my pace.

I am having so much fun organizing my house. For my kitchen, I purchased new designer silverware, storage bins, and created labels. Some of my kitchen drawers now feature a condiment drawer, a zip lock bag drawer, a tin foil drawer, and a stationery drawer. I saw an IKEA commercial in the 90s that spotlighted a condiment drawer and since then I wanted one. I created a coffee bar that’s stocked with vegan and organic items such as mushroom coffee (delicious), hot chocolate, chocolate sprinkles, chocolate chips, cinnamon sticks, marshmallows, vanilla and caramel syrups, stainless steel mugs, chocolate chip cookies, which I finished off while writing this post, and regular instant coffee because I don’t live alone.

I have been meeting with various contractors to install shelves in my new kitchen pantry, which was my old laundry room, and update two reach-in closets. In my new laundry room, I plan to install tiles on the wall, a folding table across the washers and dryers, and new containers, bins, laundry wall art, and labels for products and other items suited for the laundry room. I have two washers and two dryers. People say, “That’s excessive” and “You don’t need that?” A former designer and contractor I hired actually made up an excuse as to why I couldn’t have the laundry room I wanted. I overheard them mumbling, ‘Why does she need that?’ I knew it was because they did not understand my desire. And because of that, on the spot, I practically cursed them out.
